Pete's BLOG-Day 26,492. Final comments on corporate contributions to 2012 campaign.

Today is Friday, May 31, 2013. My stats today: 10 minutes of yoga, 10 minutes lifting weights and 38 minutes of walking = 2.1 miles for a grand May total of 62.0 miles. My weight 161.2 pounds.

My THOUGHTS today are on some final comments on corporate contributions to the 2012 campaign.
1. My source of information was from The Lowdown, written by Jim Hightower. It is a 4-page pamphlet, published monthly - my info was from the April, 2013 issue.

2. Mr. Hightower got this information from 3 main sources.
a. Open Secrets (www.opensecrets,org)
b. Sunlight Foundation (www.sunlightfoundation.com)
c. Public Campaign (www.publiccampaign.org)

3. We can thank the Supreme Court for this corporate takeover of American democracy. They passed the Citizens United decision in 2010 which said that corporations are people and have the same rights as people. So the floodgates were opened for such right-wing slime balls as Karl Rove, the Koch brothers, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, that Las Vegas casino billionaire, and numerous front groups known as non-profits who secretly funneled money into the campaign.

4. I listed 210 U.S corporations - 191 (or 91%) of them gave 65% to 100% of their money to the GOP. So the obvious question is WHY-WHY-WHY?  In my opinion the answer is that they feel they could get a Republican controlled Congress and President to do away with government regulations they feel are restricting their profit margins.

5. What it comes down to is money, power and greed - it is as plain and simple as that.

6. And the other bottom line is to hell with the common man/woman and to hell with the environment.

7. The U.S. may have to change it's name if the corporations eventually win out. The new name -  The United Corporations of America.

8. To me it is downright scary what the conservatives are trying to do to our democracy. I've got to get off this topic of corporations trying to take over our country as I'm getting more pissed by the minute.
